NuWave Solutions announces former DHS official André Hentz as their new Chief Operating Officer
MCLEAN, VA, July 23, 2020 – NuWave Solutions, a leading provider of anticipatory intelligence and predictive analytics to the defense, intelligence and private sectors announced and welcomed André Hentz who has assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) effective July 20, 2020. Prior to that, Mr. Hentz served as Deputy Under Secretary (Acting) for Science and Technology at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), where he was appointed in January 2017. He also served as the Chief Scientist at S&T, as well as a Senior Leader and Science Advisor to the Under Secretary. He joined S&T in 2014, and has led priority programs that addressed emerging threats in the homeland security landscape. In 2016, he spearheaded the Department’s Rapid Reaction Team on Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (CUAS), which was established to help homeland security officials counter nefarious drone use. Mr. Hentz’s efforts identified solutions and requirements to help federal government agencies evaluate and invest in CUAS technologies.
Mr. Hentz developed S&T’s research investments which included package screening and inspecting at international mail facilities, on-scene solutions for first responders, and data analytics. To increase knowledge sharing and protections, the multifaceted effort mission was to create and deliver new machine learning capabilities for identifying patterns of illicit trade and suspicious networks and inform existing threat libraries. His expertise in next-generation technologies, capability development, and accelerating technology transition brought smart and connected solutions to fruition, in areas that include artificial intelligence, biometrics, and next-generation sensors. Mr. Hentz’s work at DHS expanded collaborative R&D efforts within the Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) and University Centers of Excellence (COE).
Prior to joining S&T, Mr. Hentz served as Director of Mission Support at the Department of Defense’s Intelligence Systems Support Office (ISSO). While at ISSO, he also served as Senior Intelligence Officer, Intelligence Oversight Monitor, and Military Intelligence Program Functional Director, and Deputy Director of Mission Support and Chief of Acquisitions.
Mr. Hentz earned a Master of Science in management from the University of Maryland, University College in 2005, and a Bachelor of Arts in government and politics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1997.
